Throughout the school year we will be taking a variety of field trips as an extension of our curriculum. They are scheduled to enhance education and the learning experience. Children will be required to bring a lunch, a drink, and a mat to sit on during lunchtime. Children must wear weather appropriate clothing including a school shirt and athletic type shoes. Children are allowed to bring some extra money to purchase additional drinks. Snacks and sweets are allowed on field trips. Transportation to and from a field trip must be conducted in the same manner. All students will begin and end each field trip day at the school. Parent Volunteers are welcome and necessary, however siblings and friends are not allowed on field trips. Volunteers must follow all school policies, rules, and standards. Parents will be notified about detailed information concerning each individual field trip. Fees for each trip are due the day before the field trip.
On Parents’ Day OITCS welcomes family members of the students to come and spend some time in the classroom. This is an opportunity to see and experience school life with your child. There will be 3 Parents’ Days every year – one every semester. Parents, grandparents, siblings, and other family members are welcome to attend one or all of the days.
Once a year OTICS will have sports day. The children will do a small presentation of their physical abilities and play athletic and competitive games and sports. Family participation is encouraged. Children must wear appropriate attire and athletic type shoes. Please bring drinks and a picnic lunch for your family.
Show and Tell
For Show and Tell days we ask that each child bring something that is special to them – a small toy, book, game, article of clothing, etc. The student will show their special item to the class and tell about the item (For example: What is it? Where did you get it? Why is it special to you? Etc.) Other students will be encouraged to ask questions about the item. Items will be kept in the students’ backpacks during class time. OTICS is not responsible for lost or damaged items.
Throughout the year OTICS will have a variety of school and class parties. Occasionally we might ask for parents to bring food, snacks, drinks, or other items for the party; other times the school will provide everything. Parents and family members will be invited to attend some parties. It is not mandatory, however children enjoy having their family come to school and spend time with them. Once a month we will have a birthday party to celebrate children whose birthdays are during that month. Parents whose children are celebrating a birthday are invited to attend the party. If there is no birthday during a month we will not have a party. August birthdays will be celebrated in September since there is no school during August. A birthday party schedule for the year will be sent to you after school begins so you can plan accordingly.
Every year in April we will have an opening ceremony to welcome new students and to celebrate returning students moving up the the next level. Families are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Awards Assembly and Graduation Ceremony
At the end of every school year we will have an Awards Assembly and Graduation Ceremony in March. It is a time to celebrate each child’s success and accomplishments throughout the year. The students will do a small presentation of their skills learned, receive awards for a job well done, and spend time having fun with friends and family. K5 students will have a graduation ceremony where they will be honored for completing kindergarten and celebrated for moving on to the next stage of their education. Friends and Family are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Every year around Christmas time we will have a Christmas program where the students will perform or do a small play or presentation about Christmas. Friends and Family are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
